What Once Was Perfect

From Amazon: Heading home always stirs up mixed emotions for Laney Calhoun. Twelve years ago she left for graduate school, broken-hearted. She’s found professional success, but positive personal relationships have proved elusive. Running into her ex-boyfriend fans flames she thought long extinguished, and causes a renewed interest in love. Not with Kyle, of course. Never again. But as sparks fly and items of clothing disappear, she scrambles to keep her emotions in check.
Kyle Nixon let Laney slip away once. Their chemistry together is undeniable, but steamy sex is not enough to convince her to let him back into her heart. Even if she did trust him again, her medical career is five hundred kilometers away from the hometown that he loves, and the life that he once chose over her.
What Once Was Perfect is a short and sexy contemporary romance novel set in Wardham, Ontario, a fictitious small farming community on the shores of Lake Erie.

What I Thought: This is a sweet contemporary romance perfect for curling up on the couch on a rainy day. I say that because the time frame is Christmas, and being that it's so hot here on the East Coast lately I feel like I live on the surface of the sun-it was a great escape.
Laney left home 12 years ago for med school and never looked back. She has a successful career and a few friends with benefits relationships since having her heart broken by the only man who ever really had access to it. Not wanting to take the risk of having her heart broken again, Laney has spent the past 12 years holding herself back from any real relationships. When she goes home for the holidays, she runs into Kyle, the boy who is now a man and sparks long gone fire up again in his presence, along with unwanted and unresolved feelings.
Kyle hasn't stopped kicking himself for letting Laney get away so many years ago, and he hasn't ever really gotten over losing her.
The characters are fun, and well developed. I really liked that they lived in a small town and everyone was giving their opinions which was cute and funny. This is the first in a series and I will look forward to reading the next one as, I really enjoyed the character of Evie, Laney's sister.
This is a stand alone book however without a cliffhanger, which I appreciated- and a great HEA!

It Had To Be You

From Amazon: Ali Winters is not having a good day. Her boyfriend left her, everyone in town thinks she's a thief, and now she's about to be kicked out of her home. Her only shot at keeping a roof over her head and clearing her name is to beg for help from a police detective who's as sexy as he is stern....

After a high-profile case goes wrong, Luke Hanover returns to his hometown for some peace and quiet. Instead he finds a bombshell brunette in a heap of trouble. As he helps Ali put her world back together, the pieces of Luke's own life finally seem to fall into place. Is this the start of a sizzling fling? Or are Luke and Ali on the brink of something big in a little town called Lucky Harbor?

What I Thought: Here's the thing-If I could live inside pretty much any series..and I read A LOT of books..it would be Jill Shalvis's Lucky Harbor series.
This is only the latest installment in what has turned out to be one of the most fun places to visit. I wait for each new book to come out and then start reading and don't stop until I've finished. Each book in the series is stand alone, so you don't have to start at the beginning but once you read one you'll want to. The recurring cast of characters is so much fun and will have you laughing out loud and at times shedding a couple tears too.

This is the story of Ali and Luke. They are so far probably my favorite Lucky Harbor couple with the exception of Chloe and Sawyer circa Head Over Heels (A Lucky Harbor Novel)

). Ali's having a bad day, maybe more like a bad  month. After being dumped by her boyfriend, and finding she suddenly has no where to live, she's also being accused of being a thief. Luke has come to Lucky Harbor to find some peace and a much needed vacation. What he finds instead is Ali, in her underwear. Charmed by her, and suckered in by her predicament he decides to help her get back on her feet and help find out who's really responsible for the crime she's being accused of.

The chemistry between these two is so steamy, and adorable. Which is a feat in and of itself. The antics of the background cast of characters will make you laugh out loud. Lucille is my favorite!!

Where ever you start in the Lucky Harbor series you won't be disappointed, but you will be busy for a while because once you read one you won't be able to stop!

Forgotten Sins

From Amazon:
His Secrets Can Destroy Her
From the moment Josie laid eyes on sexy, mysterious Shane Dean, she was in love. Their desire ignited a passionate affair, and within weeks, Shane had slipped a ring on her finger. It seemed her every fantasy was coming true . . . until her new husband disappeared without a trace. Now, two years and one broken heart later, Josie is shocked when the hospital calls: Shane has been found . . . at a crime scene with no memory of how he got there.
Her Love Can Save HimShane can't remember the blue-eyed angel at his bedside-or who he even is-but he knows something isn't right. His hearing is razor sharp, his physical strength incredible, and the urge to protect Josie overwhelming. For powerful enemies are hunting him, and Josie is the key to discovering why. As Shane struggles to unravel his past, dangerous new truths come to light. Can he protect the only woman he's ever loved? And can Josie trust a man she thought she knew-one who carries such a deadly secret?

What I Thought: This book grabs you by the throat at page one and doesn't let go...even when it's over because while it is a stand alone, and the H/h story is pretty much resolved at the end, the suspense part of the story is no where near being finished. I can not wait to read more in this series!
This was the first book I've read by this author, but I will definitely be picking up her other Dark Protectors Series while I wait for the next installment of this one.

Shane wakes up in a hospital with amnesia, the police found him at a crime scene and he can't explain how he got there. His hearing is unbelievably sharp, he seems to have some sort of super strength, and he's healing remarkably fast. He doesn't recognize Josie, but he recognizes the feeling of protectiveness she stirs in him and he can't imagine why he ever would have left her.

Josie is shocked when she's called to the hospital because Shane has been found. She hasn't heard from her husband in two years, he left her without a word and she's been heartbroken ever since. She's been slowly putting her life back together the past two years and is determined not to let Shane leave her broken again.

The action heats up fast as Josie is in danger and Shane is certain it's somehow related to his presence in her life.

The suspense story line in this book is incredible, there were so many pieces that I didn't put it all together until the author revealed it. The heat between Shane and Josie is just combustible!
If you are a fan of romantic suspense you don't want to miss this book!

Ok here you go!!

The bedroom door had barely clicked behind me when Samantha grabbed and shoved me toward the bed. I fell backward, and she was on top of me, clawing at my clothes and ripping off her own. Whatever had been going on with her all day was now clearly finding a release.
“Sam?”
She kissed me roughly and shoved her tongue into my mouth. I groaned and pushed her back.
Though we french kissed all the time, I generally kept her out of my mouth.
“Sam?”
Finally, she stilled. With her hands braced on my shoulders, her eyes burned down into mine. Her anger squeezed my chest. Her voice was strained. “Lucien, we’ll talk later. I promise. But right now I want you, and I need you. And I need you to know it, feel it.” Her words clarified little, but I nodded.
She unleashed herself on me, kissing and licking and roughly nipping at my upper body all while maintaining eye contact. I thrust my hips into her when she lingered over my Blood Mark. I finally had to grab her hair and tug her attention away from it.
With a groan, she reached a hand down between her legs and worked herself as she devoured me. When I realized what she was doing, I moaned and gripped her shoulders and rolled on top of her.
I grabbed her hand and pulled it to my mouth, then noisily sucked on her wet fingers. I groaned at the sweet nectar of her arousal.
“You see what you do to me, Lucien? What only you do to me?” she rasped. “Take me, Lucien. I’m yours,” she offered as she planted her feet flat on the mattress and pushed herself up forcefully against my erection.
Her aggression spurred mine, and I grunted. “You want me?” I asked as I ground myself against her wetness. She ran a hand over the bedspread and found the packet she’d apparently laid out earlier. She slid herself against me as she opened it and then rolled on the condom. “God, yes,” she whimpered.
I plunged forward and filled her in one hard stroke. She screamed and wrapped herself around
me. Hard breaths and grunts and strained curses in two languages filled the room as we battled through Samantha’s emotions with our bodies. She kissed me roughly and dug her nails into my flesh. The physical pain mingled with her radiating pleasure to coax what I was sure was going to be one of the most intense orgasms I’d ever experienced.
She came in a frenzy of screams and muscle contractions. And then bit against the taut skin at
the base of my neck. Hard.
My fangs and release shot out at the same time. I growled and in a blur turned my head in search of my biceps. I missed the tender skin of her shoulder by a hair as the urge to bite down became irresistible.
Finally, I willed my fangs to retract and licked at the wound I’d made on my arm, then slid down a little and laid my head on her heaving breasts.
“I love you,” I whispered breathlessly.
She hugged my shoulders and combed her fingers through my hair. “I love you, too.” We lay together, panting, for a long time. “Lucien?” I lifted my head off her chest to look at her. “I’m ready to talk now.”

Kind of makes you want to call in sick today..huh?

Falling Into You

From Amazon:

Nell Hawthorne is in love with her life-long best friend, Kyle Calloway. Their young love is invincible and life is full of promise; then one night Kyle dies suddenly in a tragic accident and Nell is forever changed. She meets Kyle's older brother Colton for the first time at the funeral. They both struggle to move on with life as best they can. Years later, they meet again in New York City, and Colton realizes that Nell has never really gotten over Kyle's death. She seems to be harboring a deeply rooted pain, a heavy weight of guilt and regret. He knows he shouldn't get involved, but he can't help himself. Trust doesn't come easily for either of them, and they both have demons. Together, they learn the purpose of pain and the meaning of healing, and the importance of forgiveness.

What I Thought:  Make sure to have a whole box of kleenex available when you read this.
This is the story of first love, and second chances when that love ends tragically.
Nell and Kyle's story isn't really what this book is about, although you need that to understand how Nell ends up in the dark and lonely place that she does when Colton (Kyle's Older brother) finds that he can not walk away from her.
Kyle was the perfect boy, the golden child, and together He and Nell were always meant to be together. When his life ends in a tragic accident, Nell is frozen in time, unable to move past her guilt over his death or to grieve.
When she meets up with Colton (Kyle's older brother) 2 years after Kyle's death, Colton knows that he has to help her let go of her guilt and move on.
These two have been through so much that your heart just breaks for both of them, and you wonder how they're ever going to get it together.
I really like the way the author doesn't leave you hanging at the end of this story. It actually ends. It's not tied up all pretty, but this isn't that kind of story.
It's really hard not to fall for Colton. It's written from both Colton and Nell's POV, which is good because you get insight into where both the characters are coming from.

Blind Obsession

From Amazon: Obsession, defined as the domination of one's thoughts or feelings by a persistent idea, image or desire....

Chantel Rosenberg's passion for music and life had never shone brighter than the time she spent in Bordeaux France. It's a time when feelings arose and desires ran deep, a time that fundamentally changed her life.

A man living in seclusion, Phillipe Tibideau is haunted and plagued by memories he cannot disregard. Choosing to live a quiet life in his Chateau surrounded by the vineyards of France, he's left his passion for art behind.

However, the time has arrived to tell his side of a tale. A tale that has depicted him as a 'beautiful monster' and he's finally allowing someone close.

Close enough to ask questions. Questions he's not sure he wants to answer. Questions about her.

For up and coming journalist Gemma Harris, the pursuit of truth is what drives her and when a job of a lifetime presents itself there is nothing in the world that will stop her from taking it.
Even if it does mean leaving her home for several months to stay at Chateau Tibideau, with him.

This is a story of what happens when three passionate lovers collide and the desire for truth, art and music merge.

Chateau Tibideau is a place full of unanswered questions, dark sinful desire and a beauty so hauntingly sad it will have you wondering how you will ever leave the same.....

What I Thought:  This book haunted me for days. Haunting, beautifully descriptive, and sizzling sex. I couldn't read this all at once, I had to do it in nibbles. It was just that heavy.

It's labeled as Erotica, but you get so much more than that. There is an incredible erie mystery going on here that made me both shudder with the creepiness of it while simultaneously turning me on. How the hell did the author do that anyway??

Phillipe is a tortured soul. A world renowned artist, known most for a collection he painted all featuring the same subject. Gemma is an american journalist, chosen by Phillipe to write his story. His stipulation, however is that Gemma must come to France and live at his Chateau for a few months. This is where the descriptiveness of this book really comes into play. I felt like I was there in the Chateau with them. I could see it so clearly, the grounds, Phillipe's studio, the river. WOW.

At the end I felt like I needed more.  I was left feeling sad, and bereft. Probably why it's so haunting- which gave me mixed feelings.  Just know that if you are an HEA kind of reader what you're getting into-But you should totally still read it.

Hearts in Darkness

From Amazon:

Makenna James thinks her day can't get any worse, until she finds herself stranded in a pitch-black elevator with a complete stranger. Distracted by a phone call, the pin-striped accountant catches only a glimpse of a dragon tattoo on his hand before the lights go out.
Four hours...
Caden Grayson is amused when a harried redhead dashes into his elevator fumbling her bags and cell phone. His amusement turns to panic when the power fails. Despite his piercings, tats, and vicious scar, he's terrified of the dark and confined spaces. Now, he's trapped in his own worst nightmare.
One pitch-black elevator...
To fight fear, they must reach out and open up. With no preconceived notions based on looks to hold them back, they discover just how much they have in common. In the warming darkness, attraction grows and sparks fly, but will they feel the same when the lights come back on?

What I Thought: If you've never read anything by Laura Kaye...WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? Sorry just kidding..ok not really..Laura is Awesome!
This little Novella (at about 100 pages)  is the perfect way to get a taste of this amazing author and it's on sale! SCREAM! .99 for the Kindle version on Amazon!! I had it on my Nook and then repurchased it for my Kindle Fire because I like to go back and re-read it sometimes.
Caden is one of those book boys you just never forget. Holy Hotness!
I decided I had to have the print copy too as I was writing this post so I just ordered it on Amazon.
The One Click button will be death of me for sure.
So on to my review- The story opens with the two main characters, Caden and Mackenna getting stuck on an elevator in the dark.
Neither gets a really good look at the other, which SO intensifies the heat in this story.
Two people who probably wouldn't have sought each other out to start with, find they are irresistibly drawn to one other in the darkness as they open themselves up to their mutual attraction.
You seriously won't believe how much you fall in love with these characters considering how quickly this story unfolds.  They are so well developed it seems, almost impossibly so for how short it is and that is the genius of Laura Kaye. The action is non stop and if you can put this book down before finishing it, then you are a much stronger person than I.
The sexual tension is panty melting-
like hide your kids grab your husband hot.
Hope you love it as much as I do!!
