Into The Beautiful North...

Hey Chickadees!

I've got 2 winners to announce today so make sure you scroll down to see if you're one of them!

Into the Beautiful North

by Luis Alberto Urrea

Nayeli is a 19 year old girl working at a small taco shop in her very small town in Mexico. Little by little she has watched her whole life as the men leave the town to go north to American to find work, leaving her home defenseless and vulnerable to banditos.

After watching The Magnificent Seven, Nayeli hatches a scheme to go north and recruit her own seven men "Seite Magnificos" to protect her home from the drug lords who plan to take it over.

This story is rich with characters you will not forget! I loved Nayeli and her snarky Aunt Irma, who is also running for Mayor. It also has this funny, feel good quality to it that left me happy, and wanting to know more.

I have one copy to give away courtesy of Miriam at Hatchette Books!

The town where I live is 70 to 80 percent Hispanic and many of them originally came here as migrant workers. This book would definitely add to my understanding of their lives!

Still reading, but hooked on Linda Howard right now, starting my 2nd book by her.
I was able to hit another library book sale on Friday, and was able to pick up more of Linda's books. I think I am pretty set for Summer reading. LOL
